ASATTAHIR International Foundation participated as one of the key stakeholders in a Two-Day Child Protection Training and Constitutional Review for the revival of Child Protection Network. The Meeting took place at the Dankane Guest Palace form the 12th to 13th October 2019. The Forum was at the instance of UNICEF and Plan International in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs.
During the interaction, participants identified flashpoints for the abuse of children in Nigeria and recognised the need to build and revive existing networks for the prevention and prompt response to the various sorts of abuses being meted to children.
Experts at the meeting outlined different kinds of abuses undermining the rights of children in Nigeria. These include but not limited to forced labour, sexual abuse and exploitation, trafficking, physical and psychological abuses among other major abuses threatening the dignity and development of a child.
During the meeting the Constitution of the Child Protection Network was reviewed cluase after clause. This is with the view to strengthening the platform for effective and efficient prevention and response for the protection of children.
Participants also reflected on the importance of consent form and recognised the need for it to be signed by both beneficiaries and organizations concerned. Stakeholders are also tasked to provide up to date data on various kinds of interventions related to child protection.
ASATTAHIR International Foundation was represented at the event by Sa’adatu Musa Gotomo, member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The meeting was concluded with the stakeholders assuring the forum of their commitment to the courses of child protection.
