On 10th May 2023, ASATTAHIR International Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs distributed thousand food packs to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable people in Sokoto state.
The beneficiaries cut across Internally Displaced Persons in Ramin kura IDP camp, Gwiwa Eka IDP settlement as well as vulnerable groups at various locations in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Hajiya Amina Muhammad Jekada while sympathizing with the beneficiaries particularly the IDPs over their current situation, she commended ASATTAHIR International Foundation for it’s sustained commitment and doggedness to changing the narratives and ensuring that the plight of IDPs and vulnerable groups especially women, girls, OVCs and PLWDs is significantly improved.
The Foundation once again sensitized the beneficiaries on WASH practices. The Head of Programs and Research of the Foundation Rufus Yagkong led the practical sessions on how they can improve their personal hygiene and environmental sanitation.
AIF also established and inaugurated a 5 member WASH committee at Ramin kura IDP camp who will oversee and coordinate the WASH activities in the camp. The committee was supported with brooms and and other equipment for sanitation.
The Permanent Secretary Hajiya Amina Muhammad Jekada and Director Humanitarian Affairs, Mal. Umar Isah having inspected the meals, expressed satisfaction with the quality of food served and took part in the presentation of the food packs to some of the children.
The Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of the Foundation Aliyu Sidi Attahiru reflected on the research being conducted by the Foundation on IDPs. He emphasised that the research covers Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara states with the view to understanding the magnitude, dimensions and challenges of the IDPs in the affected states. He said that the research outcomes, will provide the basis for intervention by government, donor agencies and development partners. He, on behalf of the Foundation and project team thanked the Permanent Secretary and Director Humanitarian Affairs for their resourcefulness and participation in the activity, and assured of the Foundation’s continued commitment to improving the living condition of IDPs and vulnerable groups in the state.
