ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) participated in the Training of Trainers (TOT) for Government and Non-Governmental stakeholders on the Integrated Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition in Emergency (MIYCN-E).
The training which was held between 24th to 27th March 2025 was organized by the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) under the ‘Kyautata Rayuwa’ project in Sokoto state with the aim to build capacity of partners and government MDAs for effective nutrition interventions in emergency settings.
The 4-day training sought to; enhance the knowledge of stakeholders on IMAM and MIYCN-E strategies, provide hands-on experience in food processing and counseling skills as well as to equip participants with effective strategies for community-based nutrition interventions.
AIF was represented by its Child Protection and MCH officer Sa’adayu Musa Gotomo who actively participated in various sessions facilitated by CRS resource persons.
The activities included practical session on sorting, washing, and soaking Tom Brown grains, group work on de-husking, drying, and processing of Tom Brown grains, nutrition counseling skills, role-play exercises on one-on-one counseling.
Additionally, the training focused on hygiene and good food preparation practices, roasting, milling, and preparation of Tom Brown pap, community-based Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) supervision as well as writing success stories and documenting pictorial evidence.
The training provided invaluable knowledge and strengthened participants skills in community-based nutrition interventions, hands-on experience in food processing and counseling techniques and awareness of advanced nutrition data collection tools.
