As part of the activities marking the campaign against GBV in Sokoto state, MTDI has on the 25th day of November, 2020 distributed grants to 100 survivors of GBV for their effective integration into the society.
Today’s program, which was held at the Presidential Villa, Government House, Sokoto, featured good will messages from donor agencies such as UNFPA and the UN Resident Coordinator on Humanitarian Affairs.
The Chief Medical Director of Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital also delivered lecture on VVF, where he emphasized the relationship between GBV and VVF as both medical and socio-economic crisis, particularly for survivors of GBV.
The Executive Governor of Sokoto state, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal ( Matawallen Sokoto) was represented by the Commissioner of Health, Alh. Ali Nname. Other dignitaries at the occasion include Sarkin Yakin Gagi, Sa’in Kilgori and other top goverment functionaries.
In her speech, the founder MTDI, Hajiya Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal gave background of the platform, its focus and various activities embarked upon in the promotion of humanitarian courses across different parts of the state. She added that this year’s campaign against GBV include the formation of GBV Forum, High Level Advocacy, Media Programs in addition to grants for various survivors that will span 16 days.
As an established humanitarian outfit working on different aspects of GBV in the state, ASATTAHIR International Foundation was engaged, as a strategic partner to support MTDI in the implementation of these ambitious programs in Sokoto state.
The Foundation was represented at the occasion by its Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru and its Office Manager, Zuwaira Umar Yabo.
Highlights of the event include presentation of grants to survivors by dignitaries amidst cheers and applause by the beneficiaries and people in attendance. The ceremony was rounded off with prayers and announcement of the scheduled activities that stretches across 16 days earmarked for the campaign.
