The Office of the Special Adviser to the Sokoto state Governor on NGOs and Donor Agencies conducted a study visit to project sites implemented by ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) in Sokoto State to assess humanitarian interventions and identify gaps affecting internally displaced persons (IDPs). This visit took place on Wednesday, 13th May, 2026. The visit commenced at AIF’s office, where the delegation received a briefing on the Foundation’s interventions and impacts over the years.
The delegation was led by Hon. Abubakar Ahmed Sokoto (Walin Gagi), Special Adviser to the Governor on NGOs and Donor Agencies, alongside Aminu Faruk Sarkin Rima, Executive Secretary; Umar Faruk Shatima, Director of Administration; Sanusi Malamai, Finance Officer; and members of the press.
The team visited Ramin Kura IDP Camp in Sokoto North LGA and Gwiwa Eka IDP Settlement in Wamakko LGA, where AIF’s Head of Programs and Research, Rufus Yagkong, highlighted the Foundation’s interventions in protection, nutrition, WASH, health, menstrual hygiene, and non-food item support, including the innovative IDPs and Refugees Information Management System (I-RIMS), a digital platform designed to improve real-time beneficiary tracking, service delivery monitoring, and data-driven humanitarian coordination for more efficient and accountable response among displaced populations. Some of the key AIF’s interventions include Tom Brown preparation and distribution, health and WASH support, menstrual hygiene adolescent girls and women of child-bearing age, and the distribution of non-food items.
Similarly, during the current visit, AIF alongside the visiting team distributed over 300 meal packs across both locations, alongside Tom Brown packs and reusable sanitary pads to 50 women and girls in Gwiwa Eka Settlement.
The AIF team was led by the Founder alongside the Executive Secretary, staff, and interns. Speaking to journalists, AIF’s Founder, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru MBA, FICRPC, reaffirmed AIF’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with national and international organizations in complementing government efforts and promoting durable solutions for displaced communities. He also highlighted AIF’s strategic collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council in 2023 and 2024, through which over 30,000 internally displaced persons were reached across Sokoto and Zamfara States with life-saving humanitarian interventions. Moreover, he noted that AIF seeks partnerships with humanitarian actors and donors in addressing the identified humanitarian gaps in the state, emphasizing the need for sustained collaboration to expand reach, strengthen impact, and support vulnerable populations more effectively.
In a related development, AIF’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba, also addressed journalists and appreciated the continued collaboration between government, development partners, and humanitarian organizations in supporting displaced communities.
A rapid assessment of the camps and humanitarian situation of the IDPs was jointly conducted by the visiting delegation and AIF to identify critical gaps and strengthen humanitarian response efforts.
Members of the delegation expressed satisfaction with AIF’s interventions and commended the Foundation for its continued humanitarian support in Sokoto state.
