On 1st June, 2023 Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) requested ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) to conduct research on trafficking in persons across border communities in the Northwest.
Receiving the team, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of ASATTAHIR International Foundation Aliyu Sidi Attahiru warmly welcomed the NACTAL’s national president and Sokoto state executive officers of the network on behalf of the board management of the Foundation.
The National President NACTAL, Abdulganiyu Abubakar accompanied by some of the state executive officers of the network Hauwa S. Sadiq (Deputy Coordinator) and Ameh Jerry (Assistant Secretary) thanked the Foundation for honoring their request and the warm reception accorded to them.
Fascinated by the Foundation’s commitment to humanitarian interventions, particularly in the areas of research and development, the President commended the Foundation for the recent research it published and disseminated on Fire Disaster Preparedness and Response in Sokoto state as well as the ongoing research on the Dynamics of Internal Displacements and the Situational Analysis of IDPs in Northwest Nigeria.
He stated that the purpose of his team’s visit was to leverage on the Foundation’s experience, expertise and capacity by requesting AIF (on behalf of board of trustees and national executive of NACTAL to commission a research that explores roles of border communities in aiding and abating trafficking in persons, particularly the vulnerable population as their victims.
He highlighted that Sokoto state by virtue of it’s strategic location of multiple borders with Niger Republic makes it susceptible to human trafficking activities at a disturbing scale.
While thanking the management of the Foundation for honouring his request to pay such a visit, he stressed that now is the era of speaking with empirical evidence and he believe the research findings will give credence to the numerous presentations NACTAL has made to various development partners calling for deliberate and coordinated interventions to curb human trafficking.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba commended the National President of NACTAL for his leadership qualities, foresight, innovation and his immeasurable contributions in the humanitarian space.
He noted that AIF has been impacting lives through its interventions across various thematic areas since it’s inception and will continue to invest in development work with the little resources at its disposal.
He assured that the Foundation will continue to open it’s arms for such partnership and collaborations that will impact the lives of the people, particularly the vulnerable groups in the society.
He thanked National body as well as Sokoto state chapter of the network for the visit and for finding ASATTAHIR International Foundation capable of conducting such a vital study.
