ASATTAHIR International Foundation facilitated as a witness, the signing of Peace Accord by Gubernatorial Candidates and Parties in Sokoto state:
AASTTAHIR International Foundation has participated as a witness, the signing of Peace Accord by gubernatorial aspirants and parties in Sokoto state in the build up to the 2019 General Elections.
The Peace Accord was at the instance of the Independent National Commission (INEC), Sokoto in collaboration with International Republican Institute (IRI). Speaking shortly during the event, the Resident Commissioner of INEC in Sokoto emphasized that the accord, if abided with, will facilitate the conduct of peaceful, credible and transparent elections in the state.
He reiterated the urgency of the peace initiative especially that the political atmosphere is increasingly becoming tense barely two months to the elections. The Resident Commissioner thus commended the parties, candidates and stalwarts as well as the foundation and other CSOs and NGOs for responding positively to INEC’s summons and urge all the stakeholders to facilitate the actualization of the accord for peaceful coexistence and democratic consolidation.
After the epoch making ceremony, the chairman of the Foundation, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru addressed the press and charged all the parties in the accord to honour their commitments in the accord in furtherance of peaceful and credible electoral process in the state.
