ASATTAHIR International Foundation Sensitized inmates and Donated Sanitary Packages to the Sokoto Correctional Service against Covid 19 Pandemic:

 

A Delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation has today, the 4th April, 2020 conducted an extensive sensitization session with the staff and inmates of the Sokoto Correctional Service against the dreadful epidemic of Covid 19. The team led by the Foundation’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Rashidat Mohammed was supported by some staff and volunteers of the Foundation: Dr. Zainab Hassan (MBBS); Saadatu Musa Gotomo (Staff Nurse); Zuwaira Umar Yabo; Hajiya Ummulkhair Ambursa; Ishaq Ahmad; and Ni’ima Ibrahim.

The delegation was received by the Deputy Controller of the Sokoto Correctional Service, Alhaji Idris Muhammad. The consignment, which includes Hand Sanitizers, Soaps, Sanitary Pads for Female Inmates, Toilet Sanitizers and Buckets were handed over to the officials and displayed during the Sensitization talks. During the session, medical staff of the Foundation emphasized the need by the beneficiaries to follow due procedures for the use of materials donated. Dr. Zainab Hassan enlightined the inmates on the necessity to adhere strictly to safety requirements as prevention to contracting the Covid 19 disease. On her part, Saadatu Musa Gotomo demonstrated how the sanitary items donated can be used effectively for protection and precaution.

On the other part, Barrister Rashidat Mohammed thanked the officials of the Correctional Centre for the warm reception and the opportunity given to support some of the most vulnerable to the infectious Covid 19 virus. She also thanked the Government of Sokoto for releasing over one hundred inmates with minor Offences as a strategy to decongest the prison in the wake of the spread of Covid 19 epidemic. Finally, the Deputy Controller expressed appreciation to the Foundation for their humanitarian gesture and particularly for choosing to support the community at the Correctional Centre. He argued that since the outbreak and spread of the disease, the Foundation is the first to make such a generous donation and sensitization outreach at the center. He encouraged other outfits to emulate the foundation so as to realise the objectives of the Correctional Centres in Nigeria. After the program, the Head of the delegation, Barrister Rashidat Mohammed addressed members of the media, which include Channels Television, TVC, NTA, Garkuwa FM, Rima FM among other outfits that attended the program.
