Today the 25th of August, 2022, a delegation of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) paid a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of ASATTAHIR International Foundation as part of its ongoing activities in the state.
The delegation was received by members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Management Committee led by the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru. The IOM team was led by the Field Operations Assistant (Nasarawa) Olabisi Ogundare. Other members of the IOM delegation include Bruce Oriaran, Field Operations Assistant (Abuja), Bello Buba Joda, Field Operations Assistant (Taraba), Hamza Usman, Field Operations Assistant (Sokoto) and Shehu Dange of the Red Cross.
The delegation was introduced to the foundation by the Sokoto State Operations Assistant of the IOM, Hamza Usman, who eulogiesed the long time professional partnership between IOM and ASATTAHIR International Foundation in Sokoto. He mentioned the complementary roles of the Foundation in the areas of support for Internally Displaced Persons in the state and strategies for containing the dangerous migration trend in Sokoto state.
In his response, the Chairman of the Foundation , Aliyu Sidi Attahiru welcomed the delegation of IOM and commended for their humanitarian and development work in the state and across the world for the benefit of mankind. He stressed the good working relationship of the Foundation with the IOM in support of displaced and distressed people and in the monitoring of migration trend in the state.
In continuation of the Foundation’s response, the Executive Secretary, Prof Yahaya T. Baba commended the courtesy of IOM for the visit and emphasised the good working relationship between the Foundation and IOM. He reiterated the numerous activities of the Foundation that are related to migration and humanitarian support services for the displaced and vulnerable people in the state. Prof Baba enumerated a number of activities embarked upon by the Foundation in the state. These activities include feeding of IDPs, shelter for displaced persons, education and health support as well as sanitation and fumigation of IDP Camps.
In his response, the head of delegation, Mr. Olabisi commended the foundation for its untiring efforts in support of the plight of IDPs and vulnerable people in the state. He particularly reiterated the commitment of IOM at state and national levels to continue to partner and collaborate with ASATTAHIR on migration and other humanitarian related activities. He said the purpose of their visit is twofold: to pay courtesy call; and interact with the foundation on matters related to migration in the state as a key stakeholder and a frontline organisation in the state. He interacted with the cross section of staff of ASATTAHIR guided by the instrument of the organisation. Thereafter, he pledged the continuing support of IOM and collaboration with ASATTAHIR in areas of mutual interests.
On the other hand, Shehu Dange of the Red Cross commended IOM for the visit and emphasised the impacful interventions of ASATTAHIR Foundation in numerous areas of humanitarian assistance and encouraged the IOM team to continue to hold ASATTAHIR with high esteem, particularly in areas mutual support and assistance for the advancement of humanity.
The visit was rounded off with exchange of pleasantries, signing of vistors’ book and group pictures.
