As part of the preparation for Violence-Free Local Government Elections in Sokoto State, ASATTAHIR Foundation participated as witness to the Peace Accord for Political Parties at the instance of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
The ceremony took place today the 25th March, 2021 at the Sultan Maccido Institute of Quaranic and General Studies.
Representatives of the ten political parties participating in the Local Government Elections on the 27th March, 2021 were in attendance and signed on behalf of their respective parties.
Aliyu Sidi Attahiru, Founder and Chairman, ASATTAHIR International Foundation, Prof. Sani Dangoggo, Vice Chancellor, Sokoto State University and representative of the Resident Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) signed as witness in the Peace Accord.
The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission, Alh. Aliyu Suleiman in his opening remarks Reiterated the significance of the Peace Accord and justified the choice of nonpartisan witnesses to the Accord for peaceful elections.
The ceremony was attended by the Police Commissioner, Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, State Director Department of State Security and Comptroller of the Nigeria Correctional Service, who spoke separately on the need for peaceful electoral process in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Sokoto State.
The ceremony was rounded off with assurances of commitment to the implementation and observance of the various clauses of the Peace Accord by the Chairman of the Peace Accord, Alh. Namadina Abdulrahman. He also reiterated the fact that the Accord will be enforced by the security agencies and breaches of any sort will be appropriately prosecuted.
The ceremony was rounded off with commitment of all parties and stakeholders to peaceful elections.
