ASATTAHIR International Foundation Participated, as partners to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in the Flag-off of Distribution of Relief Materials to Victims of Flood and Presentation of Federal Government Grant to Rural Women, the 16th October, 2020 at the Sokoto State Transport Authority:

As part of the nationwide Humanitarian interventions being carried out and coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD), the Hon. Minister, Haj. Sadiya Umar Farouk flagged-off the distribution of relief materials to victims of flood disaster and Presentation of Federal of Government Grant to Rural Women in Sokoto State.
In her remarks the Minister mentioned the quantity of various relief materials earmarked for distribution across the affected Local Government Areas of the state.
She also reiterated the fact that the event, as has been the case with many other Humanitarian interventions across the country, represents one of the major policy thrusts of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to impact positively on the poor and other vulnerable groups.

The ceremony was attended by the Hon Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs, Paulen Tallen, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, represented by the Secretary to the Sokoto state Government, Alh. Saidu Umar (Mallam Ubandoma), the Wife of His Excellency, the Governor of Sokoto state, Haj. Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Salame, Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of Women Affairs, Sokoto state among other dignitaries.

During the event, speeches were delivered by both the Ministers of Humanitarian and Women Affairs, who sympathized with the government and people of Sokoto state, particularly victims of flood disaster. They also enjoined the beneficiaries to take advantage of the support packages as source of empowerment for decent and sustainable livelihood.

Earlier on, the Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs, Haj. Kulu Abdullahi Sifawa welcomed the special and invited guests and reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Women Affairs of Sokoto State to support the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the continued distribution of the Special Grant to the Rural Women in the state.

On his part, the Secretary to the Sokoto state Government, commended the efforts of the Federal Government and particularly the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the interventions in the state. He emphasized the readiness of the state government to cooperate with Federal Government in the successful distribution of the packages to the targeted beneficiaries. He however spoke extensively on the various social security programs of the state government that focuses on people living with disabilities, destitutes, youths, women and other categories of vulnerable people and groups in the state. The event, according to him complements the efforts of the state government in various ramifications. He thanked both Ministers of Humanitarian and Women Affairs for the interventions and humanitarian gestures.

Thereafter, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs led the entourage to the symbolic presentation of relief materials to flood victims and cash grant to rural women. The Minister presented household items that included food items and building materials to some selected victims of flood disaster that were in attendance.

On the other hand, the Minister of Women Affairs, supported by the Minister of Humanitarian presented cash grant of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00) each to some selected beneficiaries at the event.

After the symbolic presentations of relief materials to flood victims and cash grant to rural women, the wife of the Executive Governor, Haj. Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal delivered Vote of Thanks, where she expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Federal Government and particularly the Ministers of Humanitarian and Women Affairs for the visit and the support extended to various categories of vulnerable groups that included flood victims and vulnerable rural women from across the state. She also reemphasized the various programs of the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal-led Administration in the empowerment of vulnerable groups in Sokoto state.

ASATTAHIR International Foundation was represented by a delegation led by its Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Alh. Aliyu Sidi Attahiru and its Executive Secretary, Prof. Yahaya T. Baba.

The program was rounded off amidst jubilation by beneficiaries and well wishes to the Special Guests by people in attendance because of the humanitarian support displayed and delivered to the people.
