ASATTAHIR International Foundation Participated, as a Stakeholder, in a One-Day Dialogue on National Ethiics and Integrity Policy, organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) on Tuesday, 25th May, 2021:

A delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation led by its Chairman, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru participated, as a Stakeholder, in a One-Day Dialogue on National Ethics and Integrity Policy, organisedby the ICPC and Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Other members of ASATTAHIR delegation include the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Prof. Yahaya T. Baba, the Legal Adiver, Barrister Rashida Mohammed, Human Rights Desk Officer, Basharu Guyawa Isa and the Financial Comptroller, Abdussalam Sidi Attahiru.

The national dialogue targeted the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Nongovernmental Organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs) as well as religious and traditional institutions.

The event was chaired by the representative of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Wazirin Sokoto Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, who declared the event opened after his opening remarks.

The dialgue featured presentations by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). NOA’s presentation focused on an overview of the policy framework and objectives of the National Policy on Ethics and Integrity. The representative of the National Chairman of the ICPC, who connected to the dialogue virtually, spoke extensively on partnership for the implementation of the Action-Plan and Consequence Management Template of the Policy.

The interactive session of the dialogue began with an extensive background of the nature of corruption in Nigeria and the trend and challenges of previous and current initiatives for the fight against corruption in the country by Prof. Yahaya T. Baba. This was also followed by an informed contribution from Barrister Rashida Mohammed on the need to integrate the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and the judiciary as strategic partners in the fight against the scourge of corruption in Nigeria. Other contributors include representative of religious institutions, ministry of women and children’s affairs, corps members and members of othe CSOs, NGOs and CBOs in attendance.

On his part, the State Commissioner of the ICPC, M. I. Alkali provided responses to various issues raised by speakers and assured participants of the readiness and commitment of the commission to build a strong partnership with key stakeholder groups in its determination to win the war against corruption in Nigeria.

The program was rounded off with the National Anthem and group photograph with organisers and participants of the dialogue.
