ASATTAHIR International Foundation Paid a Courtesy Visit to the Zamfara state Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for Partnership with the State Government in Humanitarian Activities:

A delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation led by the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, paid a courtesy visit to the Zamfara state Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Alh. Salisu Musa Tsafe on the 5th of January, 2024 for partnership and collaboration with the Zamstate state government in humanitarian endeavours. The delegation was received by the Hon. Commissioner and his team in his office at the state capital in Gusau.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation Prof Yahaya Tanko Baba introduced the platform and its activities with emphasis on the humanitarian activities being undertaken by the Foundation across the North-west geopolitical zone. He highlighted the corporate profile of the Foundation in terms of its legal standing as well as its numerous partners at both national and international level. Over the course of its existence as a platform, Prof. Yahaya mentioned a wide range.of activities carried out by the Foundation with emphasis on the support to the vulnerable groups such as the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). These support activities include food and nutrition, health care, hygiene, water and sanitation as well as education. It was on this strength that the Executive Secretary rationalised the need for collaboration with the Zamafara State Government for the expansion of its activities in the state.

On his part, the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru expressed his gratitude to the Commissioner for the warm reception and kind gestures extended to the delegation and the Foundation. He lamented the precarious humanitarian condition in Zamfara state as a flash point of banditry in the North West of Nigeria and the need to support the government in the provision of relief materials for recovery to the victims and survivors of the violent conflicts in the state.

As part of the Foundation’s keen interest on the deplorable humanitarian condition in the North West, the Chairman of the Foundation informed the Hon. Commissioner of an ongoing research on the Situational Analysis of IDPs being carried out in the North West. He therefore requested the cooperation of the state government and the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the success of the exercise and the likely humanitarian support the outcome of the research will generate.

On his part, the Hon. Commissioner expressed his delight with the courtesy visit and thanked the delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation for it’s previous and ongoing humanitarian interests in the zone and particularly the plight of the people of Zamfara state. He lamented the deplorable humanitarian situation in the state as the result of large scale banditry activities that spanned over a decade. He assured the Foundation of the state government’s support for the foundation and its readiness to forge sustainable partnership and collaboration for the escalation of the humanitarian situation in the state with the view to generating the necessary support and intervention of the stakeholders in hhe development world.

The Hon. Commissioner gave highlights of the humanitarian situation and particularly the plight of the IDPs in the state. He provided sketchy information about the humanitarian needs in the state and hoped that with the support of the Foundation, the state government will work out a sustainable strategy for the amelioration of the humanitarian crisis being faced by IDPs and other categories of distressed people in the state.

The Directors of Relief and Monitoring and Evaluation also gave some information about the activities of the state government on IDPs and the quality of data being collected for intervention by the state and other partners within and outside the country.

The meeting ended with group pictures and exchange of pleasantries with the hope that the collaboration and partnership will be strengthened with similar visits and commitments by both parties.
