As a continuation of a robust collaboration in the advancement of the rights of the Girl Child, ASATTAHIR International Foundation, Save the Child Initiative and Rashida Mohammed & Co (Rahama Law Chambers) staged a sensitization program for the Girl Child at Illela Town in Sokoto state.
This year’s event is second in the series of events that aimed at educating and sensitizing the Girl Child to appreciate her worth for the protection of her dignity in the society.
The event was held at the Abdulrahman Primary School, Illela. it featured lectures and motivational talks for the Girl Child.
Barrister Rashidat Mohammed spoke extensively on the risks and dangers around and within the environment of the Girl Child and encouraged children to speak up against any behaviour that compromises their safety, dignity and rights. She elaborated on the various places and people likely to be involved in the maltreatment of the Girl Child.
She stressed that at the level of the family, school, public places and private spaces, girls are rampantly abused and molested.
The children and their parents must pay attention to the security, safety and dignity of this category of the vulnerable group in society.
Rabiu Gandi of the Save the Child Initiative also corroborated the issues raised by Barrister and enjoined the community to be involved in the surveillance, monitoring, and exposing those involved in the acts of abusing and molesting of the girl child.
High points of the event include presentation of Certificate of Appreciation to the Judge of the Lower Shari’a Court as the Justice Ambassador of the Year.
ASATTAHIR was represented by one of its field officers, Jamilu Tanko Imam at the ceremony.
The children had the opportunity to interact with the conveners and participated in the pictures, which rounded off this year’s ceremony.
