On the 14th October 2023, ASATTAHIR International Foundation marked the end of the week-long intensive intervention in the Sokoto state Remand Home.
Following the Needs Assessment conducted by the project management team of the Foundation, AIF responded by activating its Protection, Site management, WASH, Health and Livelihood components to address the identified gaps in the Home.
This is part of the Foundation’s drive to upholding the fundamental rights of children and commitment to complement the efforts of the government in the provision of basic protection and social services to support the wellbeing of children, particularly the vulnerable ones such as the inmates of the Remand Home.
During the week-long intensive engagements in the Remand Home, the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labor (NACTAL) joined the Technical Team of ASATTAHIR Foundation and offered support in series of activities, particularly counseling and Psychosocial Support. Other activities undertaken include environmental sanitation, fumigation, procurement of cleaning tools, medical screening and, procurement of sporting kits for both boys and girls as well as nutrition support.
The Foundation also donated hygiene and sanitary kits and supported them with skills acquisition, particularly the girls where they were trained on liquid soap, shampoo production and henna designs.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Home, Abubakar Ahmad thanked AIF for the assistance given to the children. He used the medium to call on the government, well meaning Nigerians and civil society organizations to support the children in various areas of their needs.
Speaking to the Media, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of ASATTAHIR International Foundation, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru noted that the children are exposed to some risk that is why AIF responded by providing them psychosocial support, counseling services and skills acquisition.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Barrister Aisha Mohammed Dan Tsoho Mni, commended AIF for the giant stride and stressed that the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs will do more in response to the basic needs of children in the state.
In the same vein, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba stated that the children need to be informed of their potentials in order to develop them so as to be resourceful persons and good ambassadors in the society.
The session ended with the display of various drawings and art works done by the children and inspection of products the girls in the Facility produced.
