*ASATTAHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (AIF) RECEIVED THE WEST AFRICAN COORDINATOR OF THE FAMINE EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS NETWORK AND TEAM AT IT’S CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS*

ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) has received the delegation of the Famine Early warning Systems Network (FEWSNET) led by the West African Coordinator Leta Brahman on Tuesday 3rd September 2024.

The purpose of the courtesy visit was to learn on the scope and existing efforts of AIF and to build relationship that fosters information sharing and partnerships in order to promote food security through Famine Early Warning Systems in Sokoto state and West Africa at large.

Receiving the visiting team on behalf of the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of AIF, the Head of Programs and Research Rufus Yagkong noted that food security is one the key areas AIF has invested heavily upon.

Having acknowledged the devastating impact of climate change (draught and flood) and insecurity on the production and access to food items in the communities, he highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Foundation to combat hunger and malnutrition in Sokoto state particularly to OVCs and internally displaced persons through the distribution of meal packs and raw food items.

He expressed the readiness of the Foundation to partner with FEWSNET to enhance the food security in the state through the promotion of Famine Early Warning Systems particularly across the LGAs critically hit by those challenges through information sharing and capacity strengthening etc.

Similarly, AIF’s Head of Access and Safety department Dr. Garba Ibrahim highlighted how the fluid security situation and natural disasterd has resulted in the displacements of thousands of people and how AIF is collaborating with relevant line ministries to complement the efforts of Sokoto state government in responding to the immediate and long term needs of the affection population.
