On 17th December 2024, ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) received a high-level delegation from Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto
The delegation, which included the Director admin, Director and Deputy Director finance, Head of Pharmacy was led by the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Hadiza Tori. The team was warmly received by AIF’s founder, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru, alongside AIF’s members of the Board of Trustees and senior management team.
In his opening remarks, the Founder noted that, AIF has maintained good relationships with various MDAs in the state particularly when it comes to VVF cases. He added that the Foundation collaborates with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in providing necessary assistance to the survivors. He reiterated the commitment of the Foundation to continue with the excellent relationship with all line ministries and agencies in the state.
In the same vein, AIF’s Executive Secretary, Professor Yahaya Tanko Baba commended MAWCH Sokoto for their professionalism in the treatment of patients and dealing with patient relatives. He expressed his fascination in the administrative style led by Dr. Hadiza Tori in the management and coordination of various units and departments of the hospital and hoped that such tempo would be sustained.
In her remarks, the CMD stated that the purpose of the visit was to specially thank AIF for complementing the efforts of the government in supporting the treatment and general wellbeing of VVF patients through nutrition and other interventions in the hospital for a very long time. She noted that AIF has over the years helped in easing a lot of burdens both on the survivors and the management.
She hoped that collaboration between AIF and the hospital will be strengthened in order to adequately respond to the healthcare needs of women and children in Sokoto state, particularly Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) patients.
AIF’s legal adviser and the Chairman NBA Sokoto branch Barr. Rashidat Mohammed commended the efforts of the management of MAWCH Sokoto for their commitment and professionalism in rendering medical services to patients in the hospital. She assured the team of AIF’s support like always.
AIF’s Head of Programs and Research, Rufus Yagkong, expressed the foundation’s willingness to partner with Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital in providing comprehensive support for VVF patients. This includes psychosocial support, pre- and post-surgical nutritional assistance, facilitating family reintegration, and offering skills acquisition and economic empowerment programs to help survivors regain their self esteem. He also emphasized the importance of raising community awareness about VVF prevention and treatment.
AIF’s Head of Access and Safety, Dr. Garba Ibrahim while applauding the team for the visit, he commended their resilience in providing treatments to not just children and VVF survivors, but to the general public. He urged them to maintain such spirit even in the face of challenges.
AIF’s founder, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to continuing its efforts to support vulnerable women and children in northwest. He acknowledged the need for strong partnerships to tackle health challenges effectively, especially for conditions like VVF.
