On the 14 September 2026, ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) has provided food assistance to 1,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Tambuwal and Shagari Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, as part of its humanitarian response to vulnerable and crisis-affected communities.
The intervention involved the provision of wet food assistance to cushion the immediate shock and hardship faced by displaced households, while contributing to and complementing government efforts to address humanitarian needs. Beneficiaries included children, women, men, pregnant women and elderly persons.
AIF was warmly received by the local authorities. The Vice Chairman of Shagari LGA and the Executive Chairman of Tambuwal LGA, who also doubles as the Chairman of ALGON, Sokoto State, welcomed the intervention.
Having inspected the food items, they commended the quality of the food provided to beneficiaries. They also assured AIF of their continued support and cooperation at all times. The respective LGAs assigned representatives to witness and support the distribution exercise.
Speaking during the exercise, AIF Head of Programmes and Research, Rufus Yagkong, described AIF as a home-grown humanitarian and development organization that is committed to locally led humanitarian action, emphasizing that the intervention was a modest contribution towards cushioning the hardship faced by displaced families and complementing government efforts.
The distribution was conducted successfully and peacefully, with the cooperation of local authorities and community representatives.
The Tambuwal Division of the Nigeria Police Force, under the support of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), deployed personnel to ensure the safety of beneficiaries, staff and other participants throughout the exercise.
AIF appreciates the support and cooperation of the Tambuwal and Shagari Local Government authorities, the security agencies, volunteers and community representatives who contributed to the successful exercise.
AIF remains committed to strengthening home-grown humanitarian and development responses that promote dignity, resilience and wellbeing among vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
