Today, 15th October 2025, ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) today participated in a Stakeholders Meeting and Public Lecture on Fire Prevention and Safety, organized by the Federal Fire Service, Zone J, Sokoto State.
The event, themed “Strengthening Inter-Agency Collaboration to Prevent Market Fire Outbreaks in Sokoto State,” brought together key stakeholders from various government and non-governmental organizations to deliberate on proactive measures against recurring market fire incidents.
In his opening remarks, the Zonal Commander of the Federal Fire Service, CF Muhammad I. Umar, welcomed all invited participants and emphasized the critical importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing the growing menace of fire outbreaks in Sokoto markets. He called for sustained synergy among relevant agencies to bolster fire prevention, preparedness, and emergency response efforts.
ASATTAHIR International Foundation was represented by its Head of Programs and Research, Rufus Yagkong, among other dignitaries from various agencies and organizations such as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service, the Commissioner of Police, as well as representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Customs Service, the Nigerian Army, Red Cross, State Fire Service, NEMA, SEMA, Market Traders Association, and members of the press.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the state government, the SSG reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting and implementing strategic policies aimed at curbing the frequent incidents of market fires.
He commended all stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in strengthening the state’s emergency preparedness and response capacity.
The event featured a detailed lecture on “The Role of Stakeholders in the Analysis of Fire Outbreaks in Sokoto State”, as well as a group session focused on identifying and mitigating the root causes of market fire outbreaks in the state.
The activity concluded with a parade and inspection of fire service personnel, followed by a group photograph of all participants.
