*ASATTAHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (AIF) PARTICIPATED IN INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION’S (INEC) QUARTERLY CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS*

ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) has participated in the quarterly consultative meeting organized by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

The meeting which took place today 17th September 2024 was held at the commission’s auditorium.

In her opening remarks, the Administrative Secretary INEC Sokoto office Barr. Mrs. Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa welcomed all members of the civil society organizations and various associations to the meeting.

While recognizing the roles civil society organizations play in any democracy through the promotion of civic education, voters engagement and ensuring the fundamental rights of voters are not violated, she noted that previously such meetings are only held at the national level but the same is now being replicated across the states of the federation.

She added that the objective of the quarterly consultative meeting was to engage in meaningful discussions that will improve electoral transparency and enhance citizens participation in every election.

Similarly, the Head of Department VEP Muhammad Abbani Takai gave an overview of the draft work plan for 2024 which INEC and CSOs will review and adopt.

The Chairman Coalition of NGOs Sokoto state chapter Bello Gwadabawa while thanking the leadership of INEC Sokoto office for carrying CSOs along, he reiterated the commitment of civil society organizations in the state to supporting government MDAs in ensuring credible elections across the country.

Other sessions during the meeting included discussions on the next lines of action, recommendations to INEC on how to enhance voters participation in elections as well as questions and answers.

The Head of Department VEP Muhammad Abbani Takai thanked the participants for their valuable inputs and wished all safe return to their respective destinations.
