ASATTAHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (AIF) MEETS THE DELEGATION OF WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME (WFP)

ASATTAHIR International Foundation has on the 18th May 2023, (with other development partners in the state both local and international) met with the delegation of World Food Programme (WFP) at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

The visiting team was received by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Hajiya Amina Muhammad Jekada alongside Director Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Mal. Umar Isah and Director Admin Hajiya Luba Usman.

In her welcoming remarks, the Permanent Secretary thanked the team for the visit and assured to give them all the needed support for their intervention to succeed which will benefit the people in the state particularly women, children and less privileged.

The Deputy Country Director World Food Programme (WFP) Guy Adoua thanked the Permanent Secretary, her team and development partners present for the warm welcome.

In his remarks, he highlighted about WFP’s 5-year strategic plan for Nigeria noting that WFP is extending it’s presence to the northwest which Sokoto state is one of the states mapped for the intervention.

He stated that the purpose of their visit was to have an understanding of the humanitarian and food security situation in the state which will help WFP to identify partners they’ll work with in responding to the challenges on ground.

Presenting on WFP’s 5-year strategic plan for Nigeria Mr. Cyril stated that the plan which took effect from 2022 will run through till the year 2027 with focus on 5 critical pillars having women and children as the key beneficiaries targeted by the project.

He added that their intervention will focus on providing food assistance, preventing and treating acute malnutrition in children, capacity and system strengthening and enhancing social protection systems.

Highlighting some of the work ASATTAHIR International Foundation is doing in the state, the Head of Programs and Research of the Foundation Rufus Yagkong noted that the Foundation feeds at least 4000 people monthly through its daily feeding program of at least 100 beneficiaries, WASH programs, rapid response interventions to orphaned and vulnerable children, IDPs, and the recent publication of research on fire d!saster preparedness and response.

He also noted that the Foundation has embarked on a fresh research on the Dynamics of Internal Displacements and the Situational Analysis of IDPs in Northwest particularly Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara states.

In her closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Amina Muhammad Jekada thanked WFP’s team for the visit and for the massive humanitarian support Sokoto state will benefit through their intervention. She appealled for sustained synergy that will enhance resilience in the humanitarian space.
