ASATTAHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION (AIF) has on Thursday, 27th of June 2024, distributed relief items to 7,775 internally displaced persons across 1,600 households. The beneficiaries are mainly displaced persons from different parts of Sokoto East that sought refuge in Isa Town of Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto state. Most of the targeted beneficiaries are survivors of the activities of Non-state Armed Groups (NSAG) in the eastern part of Sokoto state.
The European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) funded project is implemented by Danish Refugee Council through its implementing partner ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) in Sokoto and Zamfara states. The items distributed to the beneficiaries included Basic Hygiene Kits and Non-Food Items
These items include, among other materials, blankets, sleeping mats, jerrycans, pots, plates, bathing and washing soaps, mosquito nets, reusable sanitary pads and plastic buckets.
A total of 800 internally displaced households benefited from the hygiene kits, while 800 more benefitted from the non-food items.
The safety of lives and properties in some parts of the state, particularly in the eastern part of the has been undermined by the agonizing activities of non-satate armed groups, which greatly undermine peace, stability and the general well-being of the people.
Isa LGA is increasingly recording more incidences of displacements as a result of the activities of the Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs), which expose women, girls, and children to greater protection risks.
The distribution of these relief items to the IDPs in Isa LGA is part of AIF’s commitment and openness to collaborate with local and multinational humanitarian outfits with the aim of cushioning the shocks associated with displacements and facilitating faster recovery by the IDPs in the course of their displacements.
These interventions are testament of DRC’s commitment to responding to the emergencies in the northwest through collaborations and partnerships with local and reputable organizations.
