Today 24th March 2025, ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) team led by the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru has participated in a consultative meeting and training on durable solutions and data management, organized by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs in collaboration with State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The meeting was facilitated by the Zonal Coordinator of the National Commission on Refugees, Armaya’u Shu’aibu at the main Conference Hall of the Sokoto state Cabinet Office.
The aim of the activity was to strengthen collaboration and coordination among stakeholders, (including government agencies, humanitarian organizations, development partners and local communities) for comprehensive and sustainable response to the needs of IDPs in the northwest.
The plenary session was led by Dr. Mubarak Yusuf, who, in his presentation highlighted the importance of context-specific responses and feedbacks from across the 36 states in addressing the needs of IDPs in Nigeria. He gave an overview of the national strategy on durable solutions for IDPs in Nigeria which aligns with the national humanitarian development framework that seeks to achieve sustainable peace, stability and development by fostering enhanced collaboration among humanitarian and development partners.
He emphasized in his presentation that the strategy will leverage findings from established institutions for data on refugees, IDPs, returnees and host communities across the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
During the plenary session, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba gave an overview of the contextual realities in the northwest ranging from the complex nature of the displacements, lack of awareness on the humanitarian context by critical stakeholders and lack of reliable data.
The ICT Specialist on the Foundation on the other hand highlighted some of the technological initiatives AIF has taken to address some of the challenges that would potentially serve as a pathway to a durable solution on IDPs related issues in the northwest.
The training availed all participants the opportunity to give valuable inputs for the actualization of the national strategy.
