ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) has today 20th July, 2024 carried out a mass Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sensitization, skill acquisition and routine immunization promotion to IDPs in 400 housing units, Goronyo LGA, Sokoto state.
In his remarks, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) Aliyu Sidi Attahiru commended the existing and deliberate efforts of the government and partners such as UNICEF, COOPI, IRC, RUWASSA and the World Bank for providing number of toilet facilities in the IDP camp.
He noted that AIF is only complementing those efforts to ensure that hygiene practices among the internally displaced persons (IDPs) are optimized.
Having inspected the bathrooms and conveniences, he donated brooms, disinfectants and soaps to the IDPs on behalf of the Foundation.
While discouraging open defecation, he encouraged them to use the existing infrastructures and the items donated by AIF appropriately.
The activity was a joint effort between ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) and Reaching and Adapting Immunization Services Effectively to Reach Zero-Dose Children in the Sahel (RAISE 4 Sahel)
RAISE 4 SAHEL is a Gavi-funded project aimed at identifying and vaccinating Zero-Dose Children and Under Immunized Children living in fragile, and conflict settings in seven countries of the Sahel region: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, Mali and Nigeria.
AIF as a leading humanitarian organization working in conflict areas in the northwest synergized with the RAISE 4 SAHEL immunization team in a bid to reaching more Zero-Dose and under immunized children with immunization services in the IDP camp.
AIF has created access to over 300 displaced children between 0 – 59 months age ranges with various categories of life saving vaccines; through RAISE 4 SAHEL in Goronyo LGA Sokoto state.
AIF sensitized participants that cut across pregnant women, nursing mothers, women of childbearing age, adolescent girls, children and the elderly on basic household WASH practices to prevent the outbreak of diseases like cholera and other preventable diseases.
AIF has equally trained women in the production of liquid soaps, disinfectants and antiseptics to make them self reliant.
The leadership of the IDPs thanked AIF and RAISE 4 SAHEL for the intervention. They assured that while the WASH committee will ensure the toilet facilities are kept in good condition, every household will have a stake in ensuring a clean environment and children are routinely immunized with the required doses of the vaccines.
AIF remains committed to deliberate efforts and interventions targeting vulnerable groups in the areas of health, nutrition and humanitarian response etc. through effective collaborations and partnerships to scale up response in communities affected by conflicts.
