Today 15th October 2024, ASATTAHIR International Foundation (AIF) commemorates the global hand washing day (GHWD) at Turaki Model School Sokoto state.
The 2024 Global Hand Washing Day (GHWD) themed ‘Why are clean hands still important?’ was celebrated jointly with Action Against Hunger, Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI), PLAN International, LHI and GISCOR in collaboration with line ministries in Sokoto state.
The event featured drama and song presentation by the junior secondary students and primary school pupils respectively, tippy tap hand washing demonstration, donation of two sets of hand washing stands and cartons of soap.
In their goodwill messages, dignitaries from the government and traditional authorities such as ministries of Water Resources, Environment, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) and Sarkin Yakin Gagi while enjoining the students normalize regular hand washing, they reiterated their commitments to supporting just courses to ensuring a healthy society.
They commended the development partners for their resilience in complimenting the effort of the government across various sectors.
Speaking to the press, AIF’s Head of Programs and Research Rufus Yagkong noted that water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is one of the components under health that AIF prioritizes. He added that AIF has been working closely with partners in the state to improve the overall WASH practices in the state.
In their vote of thanks, the Head teachers of Turaki Model School Sokoto conveyed their gratitude to the partners for their immense support to the school, stating that the awareness raised, as well as the items donated to the school will go a long way in enhancing regular hand washing amongst the students.
