ASATTAHIR International Foundation extends support to a twenty year old blind girl in Kasarawa Village of Wamakko Local Government in Sokoto state, Nigeria:

The story of Maryam Shehu, a twenty year old girl, who lives in Adarawa hamlet close to Kasarawa village within Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto state Nigeria is pathetic. Maryam had challenges with her sight at the age of twelve and became completely blind shortly afterwards. The parents of the little girl struggled to access medical care to save her sight without success. The limited financial capacity of the family played out as a major constraint to saving her sight. After nearly eight years of trauma, arising from her physical challenges and disability, Maryam resolved to put behind her ordeals by continuing with her formal education, which she abandoned nearly eight years back.

Even though Maryam has the moral support of her family to continue with her education, funding remain a major impediment. This was the reason she decided to put a call through to ASATTAHIR Foundation, seeking for support to further her education. After long conversations with the management of the foundation, a delegation visited Maryam at home for interactions with her and the family. Thereafter, the foundation decided to seek additional medical opinion from experts regarding her health challenges. After due consultations, the foundation with the moral support of the family sought and secure appointment the Chief Medical Director of Noma children Hospital, Sokoto, Dr Muhammad Bello Ahmad, who is also an eye expert.

On Thursday, the 31st of January, 2019, Dr Ahmad examined Maryam, and carried out series of investigations regarding her sight. Sadly, reports suggest that the case of maryam is a hopeless one. Dr Ahmad took some time and counseled the young Vulnerable girl and encourage her to enroll for formal education to improve the quality of her life. He also commended the foundation for their interest in the plight of vulnerable girl and offers to continue to work with the platform to better the lives of vulnerable people.

On return from the hospital, the foundation interacted further with Maryam and her family, Particularly on her school enrollment. The foundation offered to secure admission for her at the A.A.Raji Special School in Sokoto with all that she require to attend her classes. Arrangements are thus being made for her daily transportation, learning materials and upkeep to motivate her study. The foundation is overwhelmingly thrilled and fascinated with the courage, Passion and determination of Maryam to take bold steps in search of meaningful livelyhood.
