The management of ASATTAHIR International Foundation has paid a sympathy visit to Garkuwa FM Sokoto over the fire incident that gulped some parts of the office complex that houses the radio station.
The delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation was led by the Founder/Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) Aliyu Sidi Attahiru. The delegation was received by the Management of Garkuwa FM, today the 27th April, 2022. In his introductory remark, the General Manager of Garkuwa FM revealed that incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 21st April, 2022. He lamented that the inferno destroyed three of the station’s studios, office, visitors’ room and store room.
The General Manager of the Station, Alh. Ibrahim A. Argungu was flanked by the Director News and Current Affairs, Bala Abubakar and Manager Programs, Nasir Abbasa Babi.
In his opening remarks, the Founder/Chairman BoT Aliyu Sidi Attahiru expressed his deepest sympathy and shock over the unfortunate occurrence and wished the incident was averted. He noted that Garkuwa FM has been a long-standing partner of ASATTAHIR International Foundation and has been contributing immensely to the foundation’s interventions and programs by spotlighting the activities of the foundation whenever it reaches out to the vulnerable groups in the state through its life-changing services to humanity. He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) replenish the Station its losses and protect from such and other similar adversities in the future.
Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the foundation, Professor Yahaya Tanko Baba while presenting the sympathy letter on behalf of the Board of Trustees and entire management of the foundation noted that what affects Garkuwa FM good or bad directly affects ASATTAHIR International Foundation.
He also noted that the rampant fire outbreaks in Sokoto state has compelled the research unit of ASATTAHIR, with the approval of the Board to embark on a holistic research on the causes, dynamics, impacts of rampant fire incidences in the state with the view to making recommendations that could lead to the drastic reduction of fire outbreaks in Sokoto state and Nigeria at large. He assured the management of the Station that ASATTAHIR will work closely with Garkuwa FM on this quest.
In the wake of this development, Professor Yahaya Tanko Bello presented a cheque of fifty thousand naira (50,000.00) to Garkuwa FM on behalf of the Board and Management of ASATTAHIR International Foundation as a token support to cushion the consequences of the fire disaster.
Receiving the letter of sympathy and cheque on behalf of Garkuwa FM, the General Manager, Ibrahim A. Argungu expressed gratitude to ASATTAHIR for deeming it fit to officially pay a sympathy visit to Garkuwa FM. He stated that the management of Garkuwa FM was moved by the kind gesture and assured that the financial donation received will be used judiciously. He also appreciated some members of the ASATTAHIR delegation, who are regular resource persons to the station. He was particularly appreciative of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Baba and Basharu Altine Guyawa Isa for regular appearances on numerous educative and enlightenment programs as guest speakers.
The General Manager stated that the incident was caused by electrical fault which escalated quickly making all efforts to put off the fire futile.
In spite of this drawback, the General Manager was glad to inform the team that Garkuwa FM is back on air and will remain committed to serving the good people of Sokoto state. ASATTAHIR Delegation was conducted round the affected parts of complex to see the extent damages caused by the inferno.
Thereafter, the posed for group pictures and the delegation of the Foundation was seen off by the management team of the Station after exchanges of pleasantries and informal discussion amongst mwmbers of the two teams.
