In commemoration to 2023 Children’s day celebration, ASATTAHIR International Foundation celebrated the special day with students of Yakubu Mu’azu Science Model school, Sokoto.
As one of the critical areas of focus of the Foundation is safeguarding children especially orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) and children living with disability from abuse and harm, and to promote their overall wellbeing, the Foundation obtained necessary clearance from State Urban Development Agency, Sokoto to design the Zebra Crossing and install road signs for the school to commemorate the 2023 Children’s day celebration.
Raising awareness on traffic rules to ensure safety of all road users, The Head of Programs and Research of the Foundation Rufus Yagkong and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Sokoto Sector Command, sensitized the students on the importance of Zebra crossing and other road signs as well as teaching them when and how to use the signs.
While unveiling the road signs, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of the Foundation Aliyu Sidi Attahiru reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of children and improving their wellbeing.
A ceremonial ‘walk’ on the Zebra Crossing was done by students from both Primary and Secondary sections in the company of AIF team, M&E officer, Save The Child Initiative, and teachers of the school, while Federal Road Safety Marshalls controlled the traffic during the exercise.
The Head Teacher Mal. Mohammad M. and the Chairman School Based Management Committee (SBMC) of the school Mal. Bello Alkammawa on behalf of the students, Parent Teacher Association and Old Boys Association commended the effort of the Foundation and expressed optimism that the zebra crossing and road signs will minimize the rate of road traffic accidents, particularly accidents pertaining students of the school who are mostly being hit by motorists while attempting to cross the road.
The celebration ended with presentation of teaching materials to the school through the Head boy and Head girlby the Foundation and group photograph.
