*ASATTAHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION VENTURES INTO RESEARCH ON THE DYNAMICS OF INTERNAL DISPLACEMENTS AND THE SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDPs) IN NORTHWEST NIGERIA:

ASATTAHIR International Foundation has embarked on yet another research on the Dynamics of Internal Displacements and the Situational Analysis of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the northwest, Nigeria.

This is coming shortly after the Foundation published it’s 9 months long research on Fire Disaster: Preparedness and Response in Sokoto state in February, 2023.

In the past years, incidences of internal displacements in the northwestern region has been on the increase, largely attributed to the rising incidences of banditry and climate consequences. The Foundation is thus motivated to unravel the dynamic patterns of internal displacements in the region and the situational analysis of the IDPs with respect to their livelihood and general wellbeing.

The research covers Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara states. The states are purposively selected for the research based on the prevalence and severity of the incidences of internal displacements. Data collection has been rolled out in Katsina and Sokoto states while the Foundation awaits ethical clearance from Zamfara state government.

Speaking during the training of Research Assistants for the research, the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of ASATTAHIR International Foundation Aliyu Sidi Attahiru, thanked members of the Board of Trustees for their resilience in promoting and upholding the very core values the Foundation was built upon. He added that their commitment has greatly led to an innovative ecosystem in the Foundation.

The Founder also acknowledged the efforts of the research unit of the Foundation for their professionalism, passion and creativity. He charged the research assistants to uphold the ethics of data collection while in the field.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation Prof. Yahaya Tanko Baba in his remarks noted that research are often connected for the purpose of development and that is one reason the Foundation has continued to invest heavily into social research.
He admonished the field workers to be of noble character and be good ambassadors of the Foundation while in the field, warning that any deviation from the guidelines can affect the outcome of the entire research which will end up being misleading.

The Head of Programs and Research of the Foundation Rufus Yagkong commended the Founder and board members of the Foundation for their foresight and commitment to creating an enabling environment for the staff of the Foundation.

He noted that data is being collected through Kobo collect tool which has advanced features that best suits the research structure.

Giving their goodwill messages, the Legal Adviser of the Foundation Barr. Rashidat Mohammad and Dr. Garba Ibrahim expressed their excitement and commended the Foundation for coming out with such innovative idea. They expressed optimism that the research will change the narratives and ordeals of IDPs as well as positively impact the lives of the less privileged and vulnerable groups in the region and Nigeria at large.
