Today the 17th March, 2020, a delegation of ASATTAHIR International Foundation on special invitation, participated in an elaborate sensitization and enlightenment program organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission ICPC and the National Orientation Agency NOA at the Dankani Guest Palace.
The delegation of the Foundation include the Chairman, Aliyu Sidi Attahiru, the Legal Adviser, Rashidat Mohammed, the Financial Comptroller, Abdulsalam Sidi Attahiru and the Internal Auditor, Murtala Salihu. The program, which is a new initiative of the ICPC is meant to enlighten and empower communities to track and follow up with the implementation of Constituency Projects approved for members of the National Assembly. The program was chaired by the Sole Administrator of Sokoto North Local Government & Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alh. Aminu (No Delay). The National Chairman of the ICPC was represented by the Head of the Sokoto zonal whereas the Director General of NOA was represented by the Sokoto State Director of the Agency. The program featured lectures and talks as well as contributions from participants as how to strengthen the CSOs and NGOs in the monitoring and evaluation of Constituency Projects in their areas of operation.
The chairman of ASATTAHIR, however advised the agencies to evolve a framework for interaction with members of the National Assembly as means of encouragement to efficiently execute projects approved for their constituencies. He argued that encouraging members to improve their transparency and accountability conduct will also help as against only engaging them by the agencies and the CSOs.
Barrister Rashidat Mohammed, the Legal Adviser of the Foundation also commended the organizers of the event and advised the agencies concerned to strengthen their legal and regulatory frameworks for the effective control and where necessary speedy prosecution of erring public officials. She also advised on the need to step down the enlightenment campaign to the grassroots. Both the Chairman and the Legal Adviser of the Foundation spoke to the media at the end of the event emphasizing the timeliness of the program and the need to sharpen the strategies of supervision, control and prosecution of public officials who are involved in the diversion of public funds meant for the benefits of the people. The program ended with group photographs and exchanges of pleasantries among the participants and between the participants and organizers of the event
